Mission and objectives:
The UN Country Team (UNCT) Liberia is led by the UN Resident Coordinator who coordinates all the UN's operations in Liberia with the support of the UN Resident Coordinator's Office. The UN Resident Coordinator's Office provides direct support to the UN Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team, including advisory, technical and management support. The office coordinates the implementation of the UNDAF and helps the UNCT operate more efficiently through harmonized business transaction and cost effectiveness. It is made up of three units namely; the Core Coordination Unit, the Peace, Political and Development Unit and the Liberia Multi-Partner Trust Fund/Peacebuilding Fund (PBF).
Context:
The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) Liberia is committed to advancing disability inclusion in line with the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS). Strengthening disability inclusion in joint programming, workplace systems, and operations is essential to ensuring that no one is left behind. Recent UNDIS assessments emphasize the need for:
- Systematic inclusion of people with disabilities and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in programme formulation and monitoring
- Enhanced accessibility, reasonable accommodation systems, and inclusive recruitment practices
- Reliable disability-disaggregated data at institutional and programmatic levels
In Liberia, the UNCT seeks to conduct a comprehensive review of disability inclusion across joint programmes as well as internal UN system workplace arrangements to align with UNDIS benchmarks. To support this work, the UN Resident Coordinator's Office seeks a UN Volunteer with lived experience of disability to provide coordination, analytical, and engagement support. The volunteer will contribute directly to strengthening UNDIS implementation and fostering a more inclusive UN system in Liberia.
Task description:
Under the direct supervision of the Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) Disability Inclusion Focal Point and in close collaboration with United Nations Country Team (UNCT) Disability Inclusion focal points, the UN Volunteer will support the following:
A. Joint Programme Disability Inclusion Support
- Assist in reviewing UN joint programmes using the UN Joint Programme Disability Inclusion Checklist.
- Support analysis of how disability is integrated into programme outcomes, indicators, budgets, and implementation processes.
- Help document good practices, gaps, and opportunities for disability-inclusive programming.
B. Workplace & Workforce Disability Inclusion Support
- Support accessibility assessments of UN offices, facilities, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) platforms, and communication materials.
- Assist in reviewing Human Resources (HR) policies, recruitment practices, and workforce data in line with UN Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS) Indicators 6, 9, and 12.
- Support mapping of reasonable accommodation systems and identification of gaps.
- Contribute to staff awareness activities and disability inclusion learning sessions.
C. Stakeholder Engagement
- Help coordinate consultations with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), including planning meetings and documenting feedback.
- Support outreach to UN agency focal points, HR officers, facility managers, and programme teams.
- Assist in organizing focus groups, field visits, interviews, and validation workshops.
D. Data Collection, Analysis & Reporting
- Support data collection through surveys, document review, interviews, and accessibility site visits.
- Assist in analyzing findings for disability inclusion assessments.
- Contribute to drafting of:
- Disability Inclusion in Joint Programmes Assessment
- UN Workplace/Workforce Disability Inclusion Assessment
- UN Liberia Disability Inclusion Improvement Plan / Roadmap
- Assist in preparing presentations, briefs, and communication materials.
E. Additional Tasks
- Participate in United Nations Volunteers (UNV) learning and professional development activities.
- Support RCO initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Perform any other related tasks assigned to strengthen disability inclusion and aligned with the volunteer's capabilities and professional development goals.

Required education level:
Bachelor's degree in Disability studies, Social sciences, development studies, human rights, public administration, or related field. Alternative relevant experience may be considered in place of formal education. Fluency in standard written and oral English.

- Some experience (formal or informal) in disability advocacy, inclusion work, community mobilization, research, or programme support.
- Experience working with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) is an asset.
- Experience in accessibility, inclusive policy, or development programmes is desirable.
