About the Role

The purpose of the Divisional Office Accountant role is to provide accurate, timely and compliant financial support to a designated division or divisional office. The role supports financial transactions, reconciliations, routine reporting, month-end activities, budgeting inputs and basic variance tracking to ensure reliable financial information and adherence to financial policies, procedures and internal control requirements. The role contributes to operational efficiency by maintaining accurate records, resolving routine finance queries and escalating risks, discrepancies or exceptions where required.

Key Duties

  • Operational Delivery Process and maintain accurate divisional financial transactions, journals, reconciliations and supporting schedules.
  • Support month-end reporting activities by preparing information, checking completeness and submitting required outputs within agreed timelines.
  • Monitor expenditure, cost centre allocations, accruals and routine accounting entries in line with delegated authority and financial procedures.
  • Provide administrative and analytical support for budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities by consolidating and validating source information.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, records and evidence to support reporting, reconciliation, audit and compliance requirements.
  • Resolve routine finance queries and escalate exceptions, discrepancies or risks to the relevant finance stakeholders.
  • People (Self, Team & Organisational) Work collaboratively with divisional, operational and finance stakeholders to support accurate and timely financial administration.
  • Share financial information clearly and accurately to support query resolution and day-to-day financial processes.
  • Contribute positively to team ways of work by following agreed processes, meeting deadlines and supporting continuous improvement activities.
  • Financial, Reporting & Business Intelligence Prepare routine financial reports, schedules and reconciliations to support divisional performance tracking.
  • Validate financial data for accuracy and completeness, identifying discrepancies and escalating issues where required.
  • Support cost control by monitoring expenditure against approved budgets and providing accurate information for review.
  • Governance & Compliance Apply financial policies, procedures, accounting principles and internal controls in day-to-day divisional accounting activities.
  • Prepare accurate schedules, reconciliations and supporting documentation for audit, reporting and compliance purposes.
  • Identify and escalate control gaps, data quality issues, reconciliation differences or financial risks through the appropriate channels.
  • Future-Fit Support improvements to financial processes, reconciliations, reporting routines and document management practices.
  • Use financial systems, spreadsheets and reporting tools accurately to complete assigned accounting and reporting tasks.
  • Stay informed of process, system and policy changes that impact divisional financial administration and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Financial Management, or a closely related discipline (essential).
  • Minimum of five years' relevant experience in accounting or finance, with a strong background in reconciliations, journal entries, reporting support, and month-end closing processes (essential).
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and reconciliation procedures (essential).
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and divisional or operational financial reporting (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office 365 applications (essential).
  • Familiarity with financial or ERP systems such as SAP, BPC, or comparable platforms (preferred).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
