JOB SUMMARY
The Excavator Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of excavators and other heavy earth-moving equipment used in the quarry operations of Edrine Rock Crusher Inc. As a front-line, on-site leader, the Excavator Mechanic ensures maximum equipment uptime, diagnoses and resolves mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults, and helps maintain safe and efficient site operations. The role reports directly to the General Manager and requires strong technical expertise, hands-on problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to preventive maintenance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as an on-site leader by setting a strong example of technical discipline, safety, and professionalism for other maintenance and site personnel.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine faults on excavators and other heavy equipment used in quarry and crushing operations.
- Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, greasing, and inspection of tracks, hydraulic systems, and undercarriage components.
- Diagnose breakdowns quickly and carry out field repairs to minimize equipment downtime and keep production on schedule.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, repair records, parts usage, and service schedules for all excavators and related heavy equipment.
- Coordinate with the Plant Manager/Crushing Supervisor to plan maintenance activities around production schedules and minimize disruption.
- Identify and requisition spare parts, tools, and consumables needed for repairs, and manage workshop inventory responsibly.
- Test repaired equipment to confirm proper function before it is returned to active operation.
- Ensure all maintenance and repair work is carried out in compliance with manufacturer specifications and site safety procedures.
- Train and guide junior mechanics or equipment operators on proper equipment care, minor troubleshooting, and safe operating practices.
- Report any recurring mechanical issues, safety hazards, or equipment nearing end-of-life to the General Manager.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop and work area at all times.
- Carry out any other duties as reasonably assigned by the General Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Technical/vocational certificate or diploma in Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Diesel Mechanics, or a related field.
- 2 – 5 years of proven experience repairing and maintaining excavators and other heavy earth-moving equipment, preferably in a quarry, mining, or construction environment.
- Strong working knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, undercarriage components, and electrical systems on heavy equipment.
- Familiarity with major excavator brands and models commonly used in quarry operations is an advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics.
- Valid driver’s license and, where applicable, certification to operate heavy equipment for testing purposes.

- Physical fitness and stamina to manage demanding, hands-on repair work in an outdoor quarry environment.
- Honesty and integrity in handling company tools, spare parts, and equipment.
- Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during equipment breakdowns or emergency repairs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Based on-site at the Edrine Rock Crusher Inc. quarry in Zarzone Town, District 1, Margibi County, working primarily in the workshop and out on the active quarry floor.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, dust, noise, heat, and heavy machinery typical of a quarry and maintenance environment.
- May require early morning, evening, or occasional weekend work to respond to equipment breakdowns and maintain production schedules.
- Adherence to all site safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
