Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s

1. Electrical Maintenance & Operations

  • Lead and support execution of preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance for LV and HV electrical systems across Port MPQ equipment, including conveyors, stackers, reclaimers, and ship loaders.
  • Ensure all electrical assets—including transformers, switchgear, substations, MCCs, VFDs, cables, and protection systems—are maintained to optimal operating conditions.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules aligned with operational requirements and equipment criticality.
  • Support daily operations by ensuring reliable power supply and immediate response to electrical faults.

2. Power Distribution & System Reliability

  • Manage and monitor LV/HV power distribution networks to ensure stability, safety, and efficiency.
  • Ensure proper load distribution, system protection coordination, and fault isolation across the network.
  • Analyze system performance to identify weaknesses and implement improvements for reliability and energy efficiency.
  • Support continuous power supply to all port operations with minimal interruptions.

3. Switching Operations & Electrical Safety

  • Plan, authorize, and execute HV/LV switching operations in accordance with approved procedures and safety regulations.
  • Ensure strict adherence to electrical safety standards, including isolation procedures and safe energization practices.
  • Implement and enforce lockout/tagout (LOTO) and permit-to-work systems for all electrical maintenance activities.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe work execution in high-voltage environments.

4. Fault Diagnosis & Troubleshooting

  • Lead diagnosis and resolution of electrical faults, failures, and system disturbances.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) of recurring electrical issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, automation, and operations teams to resolve complex cross-functional issues.
  • Maintain fault logs and ensure timely closure of electrical defects and outstanding issues.

5. System Upgrades & Projects

  • Support electrical system upgrades, modifications, and expansion projects.
  • Participate in the design review and implementation of improvements to LV/HV systems.
  • Coordinate installation and commissioning of new electrical equipment and infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.

6. Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Coordinate and supervise contractors and third-party service providers performing electrical work.
  • Ensure all external parties comply with safety, quality, and technical requirements.
  • Liaise with OEMs and vendors for technical support, troubleshooting, and equipment servicing.
  • Review contractor work quality and approve completion of tasks.

7. Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electrical drawings, schematics, single line diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities and system updates are recorded in the maintenance management system (e.g., SAP).
  • Ensure compliance with company electrical standards, international codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.

8. Training & Capability Development

  • Provide technical guidance and training to electricians and maintenance teams on LV/HV systems.
  • Develop operational procedures, maintenance guidelines, and troubleshooting manuals.
  • Support competency development and knowledge transfer to ensure sustainable operations.

9. Health, Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure all electrical work is performed in strict compliance with company HSE policies and electrical safety standards.
  • Lead safety initiatives, toolbox talks, and hazard identification activities.
  • Enforce safe work practices, including energy isolation, arc flash protection, and safe approach distances.
  • Promote a zero-harm culture and proactively manage electrical hazards and risks.

10. Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Identify opportunities to enhance electrical system reliability, efficiency, and performance.
  • Drive improvements in maintenance strategies, energy consumption, and system optimization.
  • Analyze equipment performance data to support reliability engineering initiatives.
  • Capture lessons learned and implement best practices across port maintenance operations.

11. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Electrical system availability and uptime
  • Reduction in unplanned power outages and electrical faults
  • Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) for electrical failures
  • Compliance with maintenance schedules and standards
  • Safety performance (zero electrical incidents)
  • Energy efficiency and system optimization

Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge

1. Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline

2. Experience

  • Minimum 7–10 years’ experience in electrical maintenance within mining, port, or heavy industrial environments
  • Proven experience with LV and HV systems, including switching operations
  • Experience with bulk material handling systems is highly desirable

3. Technical Knowledge

  • LV/HV power distribution systems
  • Transformers, switchgear, and substations
  • Protection relays and fault detection systems
  • Motor control systems (MCCs, VFDs)
  • Electrical safety standards and switching procedures
  • Preventive and predictive maintenance practices
  • Electrical drawings and schematics

Working Conditions

  • Expatriate rotational assignment

  • Assist in identifying workplace hazards and participate in risk assessments to minimize risks to personal health and safety.
  • Wear appropriate PPE as required for specific tasks or environments and ensure that it is maintained and used correctly.
  • Be familiar with emergency response procedures, including evacuation routes, assembly points, and first aid protocols.
  • Follow established safe work practices and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, or illnesses.
  • Operate machinery, tools, and equipment safely, following manufacturer's instructions and the AML safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workspace to reduce hazards and prevent accidents.
  • Promote a culture of health and safety awareness among coworkers by encouraging safe behaviors and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in health and safety committees or meetings as required, providing input and suggestions for improving workplace safety.
  • Keep accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities as required by company policy and regulations.

Environment

  • Oversee and monitor the environmental performance of your department's functions, ensuring high levels of awareness and compliance with company environmental policies and relevant environmental laws.
  • Regularly review environmental performance metrics and indicators to track progress, identify trends, and address areas for improvement.
  • Ensure all environmental incidents are reported promptly and investigated thoroughly in line with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Uphold a culture of environmental responsibility and compliance within the organization by setting clear expectations for incident reporting and response at all levels.
  • Collaborate with the Environment team to identify opportunities for environmental improvement and develop strategic programs to enhance sustainability practices.
