Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s

1. Mechanical Systems Management
1.1. Oversee maintenance and operation of critical mechanical equipment (pumps, conveyors, crushers, mills, gearboxes, and rotating equipment.
1.2. Piping system.
1.3. Monitor equipment performance to ensure reliability and efficiency.
1.4. Conduct root cause analysis on mechanical failures.

2. Maintenance & Troubleshooting
2.1. Provide advanced troubleshooting support for complex mechanical issues.
2.2. Ensure timely resolution of equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime.
2.3. Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance plans.
2.4. Support execution teams during major breakdowns and shutdowns.

3. Equipment Reliability & Optimization
3.1. Drive equipment reliability improvement initiatives.
3.2. Analyze maintenance data to identify trends and optimize performance.
3.3. Recommend upgrades, modifications, or replacements to improve efficiency.
3.4. Implement best practices in maintenance and reliability engineering.

4. Execution Support
4.1. Provide technical guidance and support to the Execution Maintenance team.
4.2. Ensure maintenance tasks are performed according to standards and procedures.
4.3. Support planning and execution of shutdowns and major maintenance events.

5. Project Support & Implementation
5.1. Participate in installation, commissioning, and upgrade of mechanical systems.
5.2. Review technical specifications and engineering designs.
5.3. Coordinate with contractors and vendors during project execution.

6. Safety, Health & Environment (HSE)
6.1. Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety standards and procedures.
6.2. Enforce safe work practices, including lock-out/tag-out (LOTO).
6.3. Identify mechanical hazards and implement risk mitigation measures.
6.4. Support incident investigations and corrective actions.
6.5. Promote a strong safety culture within the team.

7. Documentation & Reporting
7.1. Maintain accurate equipment records and maintenance history.
7.2. Update technical documentation, drawings, and maintenance procedures.
7.3. Prepare reports on equipment performance, failures, and improvements.

8. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
8.1. Work closely with Operations, Planning, and Engineering teams.
8.2. Provide technical support to maintenance personnel and supervisors.
8.3. Liaise with external vendors and service providers.

9. Training & Knowledge Transfer
9.1. Mentor and develop maintenance personnel.
9.2. Provide technical training on equipment operation and maintenance.
9.3. Develop SOPs and maintenance procedures.

10. Compliance & Standards
10.1. Ensure adherence to company engineering standards and best practices.
10.2. Support audits and inspections related to mechanical systems.
10.3. Follow change management procedures for system modifications.

11. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
11.1. Equipment availability and reliability.
11.2. Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).
11.3. Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
11.4. Preventive maintenance compliance.
11.5. Number of equipment failures/incidents.
11.6. Maintenance cost efficiency.
11.7. Safety performance (incident reduction).

Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge

1. Qualifications
1.1. Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

2. Experience
2.1. Minimum 7–10 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance.
2.2. Experience in mining, concentrator, or heavy industrial environments.
2.3. Proven experience with rotating equipment, heavy machinery and piping systems.

3. Technical Knowledge
3.1. Rotating equipment (pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors).
3.2. Piping and piping systems.
3.3. Crushers, mills, conveyors, and processing equipment.
3.4. Maintenance strategies (preventive, predictive, condition-based).
3.5. Vibration analysis and condition monitoring techniques.
3.6. Lubrication systems and failure analysis.
3.7. Mechanical drawings and technical standards.

1.2. Participate in health, safety and environment training programs to understand potential hazards, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
1.3. Report any health, safety and environmental concerns, incidents, or near misses promptly to the designated supervisor or safety officer.
1.4. Assist in identifying workplace hazards and participate in risk assessments to minimize risks to personal health and safety.
1.5. Wear appropriate PPE as required for specific tasks or environments and ensure that it is maintained and used correctly.
1.6. Be familiar with emergency response procedures, including evacuation routes, assembly points, and first aid protocols.
1.7. Follow established safe work practices and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, or illnesses.
1.8. Operate machinery, tools, and equipment safely, following manufacturer's instructions and the AML safety guidelines.
1.9. Maintain a clean and orderly workspace to reduce hazards and prevent accidents.
1.9.1. Promote a culture of health and safety awareness among coworkers by encouraging safe behaviors and reporting unsafe conditions.
1.9.2. Participate in health and safety committees or meetings as required, providing input and suggestions for improving workplace safety.
1.9.3. Keep accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities as required by company policy and regulations.
Environment
1.1. Oversee and monitor the environmental performance of your department's functions, ensuring high levels of awareness and compliance with company environmental policies and relevant environmental laws.
1.2. Regularly review environmental performance metrics and indicators to track progress, identify trends, and address areas for improvement.
1.3. Ensure all environmental incidents are reported promptly and investigated thoroughly in line with company policies and legal requirements.
1.4. Uphold a culture of environmental responsibility and compliance within the organization by setting clear expectations for incident reporting and response at all levels.
1.5. Collaborate with the Environment team to identify opportunities for environmental improvement and develop strategic programs to enhance sustainability practices.
