<p><strong>Position Summary</strong><br>
The Operational Readiness Engineer – Mechanical is responsible for leading the mechanical commissioning and operational readiness of all Port MPQ equipment. The role ensures all mechanical systems are correctly installed, inspected, tested, and optimized to meet safety, reliability, and performance standards prior to handover to operations.</p>
<p><br><strong>Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s</strong><br>
1. Commissioning & Operational Readiness<br>
1.1. Lead and coordinate end-to-end mechanical commissioning activities across Port MPQ equipment, including conveyors, stackers, reclaimers, ship loaders, transfer stations, and auxiliary systems.<br>
1.2. Develop, review, and execute detailed commissioning plans, inspection checklists, and mechanical test procedures.<br>
1.3. Verify mechanical completion, ensuring all installations comply with design specifications and are ready for commissioning.<br>
1.4. Conduct pre-commissioning checks including alignment verification, torque checks, lubrication validation, and equipment rotation tests.<br>
1.5. Lead performance testing and validation of mechanical systems prior to operational handover.<br>
1.6. Ensure all mechanical systems meet required performance, reliability, and operational standards.</p>
<p>2. <strong>Installation Verification & Quality Assurance</strong><br>
2.1. Inspect and verify installation quality of mechanical components, including structures, rotating equipment, bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, chutes, and hydraulic systems.<br>
2.2. Ensure proper alignment, balancing, and installation tolerances in accordance with OEM specifications.<br>
2.3. Confirm correct installation of lubrication systems, seals, couplings, and critical mechanical interfaces.<br>
2.4. Identify and rectify installation defects and ensure compliance with engineering drawings and standards.</p>
<p>3. <strong> System Performance & Reliability Assurance</strong><br>
3.1. Monitor mechanical system performance during commissioning and ramp-up phases.<br>
3.2. Identify performance bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and reliability issues, implementing corrective actions.<br>
3.3. Ensure smooth integration of mechanical systems with electrical and control systems.<br>
3.4. Support equipment ramp-up to achieve full production capacity safely and efficiently.</p>
<p><strong>4. Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution</strong><br>
4.1. Lead diagnosis of mechanical failures and equipment malfunctions during commissioning.<br>
4.2. Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on equipment failures and recommend corrective and preventive actions.<br>
4.3. Work closely with OEMs, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to resolve complex technical issues.<br>
4.4. Maintain and manage a punch list (defect register) ensuring timely resolution and closure of all mechanical defects.</p>
<p><strong>5. Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination</strong><br>
5.1. Coordinate with OEM representatives and contractors to ensure proper installation, testing, and commissioning support.<br>
5.2. Participate in technical meetings, progress updates, and readiness reviews with project and operational stakeholders.<br>
5.3. Facilitate effective communication between mechanical, electrical, and operations teams to ensure integrated system readiness.<br>
5.4. Ensure vendor deliverables meet contractual requirements and technical specifications.</p>
<p><strong>6. Documentation & Handover</strong><br>
6.1. Ensure completeness and accuracy of all mechanical commissioning documentation including inspection records, test reports, and certificates.<br>
6.2. Review and validate as-built drawings, maintenance manuals, and OEM documentation.<br>
6.3. Prepare and support system handover to operations with all required documentation and acceptance criteria met.<br>
6.4. Ensure all mechanical systems are fully documented for ongoing maintenance and reliability management.</p>
<p><strong>7. Training & Capability Development</strong><br>
7.1. Provide hands-on training and mentoring to maintenance and operations personnel on mechanical systems and equipment.<br>
7.2. Develop and deliver training materials, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.<br>
7.3. Support knowledge transfer to ensure sustainable operation and maintenance post-handover.</p>
<p><strong>8. Health, Safety & Risk Management</strong><br>
8.1. Ensure all mechanical commissioning activities are executed in compliance with company HSE policies and procedures.<br>
8.2. Participate in hazard identification, risk assessments, and mitigation planning.<br>
8.3. Enforce safe work practices including permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and isolation procedures.<br>
8.4. Promote a zero-harm culture and ensure safety is prioritized throughout commissioning and startup activities.</p>
<p><strong>9. Continuous Improvement</strong><br>
9.1. Identify opportunities to improve commissioning processes, mechanical reliability, and equipment performance.<br>
9.2. Capture and document lessons learned for future projects and operational improvements.<br>
9.3. Contribute to development of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.<br>
9.4. Support reliability engineering initiatives to improve equipment lifecycle performance.</p>
<p><strong>10. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)</strong><br>
10.1. Mechanical commissioning completed within approved schedule<br>
10.2. Equipment performance meets design and operational targets<br>
10.3. Reduction in post-handover mechanical defects<br>
10.4. Mean time to resolve equipment issues during commissioning<br>
10.5. Safety compliance (zero incidents or lost-time injuries)</p>
<p><br><strong>Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge</strong><br>
1. Qualifications<br>
1.1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline</p>
<p><strong>2. Experience</strong><br>
2.1. Minimum 7–10 years’ experience in mechanical commissioning within mining, ports, or heavy industrial environments<br>
2.2. Proven experience with bulk material handling equipment and rotating machinery<br>
2.3. Experience in greenfield or brownfield project commissioning is highly desirable</p>
