<p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s</strong></p>
<p><strong>Yard Operations &amp; Wagon Movement</strong>&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
<li>Supervise daily wagon yard activities, ensuring safe and efficient wagon movement, staging, and marshalling.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Coordinate wagon placement for loading, unloading, maintenance, inspections, and train formation.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Ensure proper consist of formation according to operational requirements.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Oversee shunting operations, ensuring compliance with yard operating procedures and train movement protocols.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Monitor wagon flows to prevent congestion, delays, and unsafe conditions.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Inspection &amp; Documentation&nbsp;</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Ensure required pre-departure wagon checks are conducted (brake tests, visual inspections, securement checks).&nbsp;</li>
<li>Verify the accuracy of wagon tracking records, yard inventories, and consist lists.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Ensure all wagon defects identified during yard activities are recorded and reported for maintenance.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Maintain real-time documentation of wagon arrivals, departures, set-outs, and in-yard movements.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Safety &amp; Compliance&nbsp;</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Enforce AML safety procedures including yard safety briefings, train approach warning systems, and safe shunting practices.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Ensure compliance with lockout/tagout protocols for wagons requiring inspection or repair.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Conduct toolbox meetings and participate in incident investigations.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Monitor safe behaviour during yard operations, including coupling/uncoupling, brake testing, and manual handling tasks.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Coordination &amp; Communication</strong>&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
<li>Liaise with Train Operations, Track Maintenance, Wagon Maintenance, and Rail Control to align wagon yard activities with operational needs.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Coordinate staging and readiness of wagons based on daily train schedules.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Communicate wagon availability, defects, yard congestion risks, and operational constraints to relevant departments.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Resource Management&nbsp;</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Supervise and assign tasks to yard personnel, ensuring optimal manpower allocation.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Ensure yard equipment (shunting vehicles, radios, tools) is operational and properly used.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Support training and competency development of wagon yard staff.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>KPIs&nbsp;</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Accuracy and timeliness of wagon consist records and yard inventory.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Safe execution of yard operations with zero major incidents.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Reduction in wagon movement errors or wrong-placement occurrences.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Efficiency of shunting operations and turnaround times.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Compliance with safety and operating procedures.&nbsp;</li>

<p><strong>Qualifications / Experience / Technical Knowledge</strong></p>
<p><strong>Education</strong>&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
<li>Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Rail Operations, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field.</li>
<li>Experience Minimum 3–5 years' experience in rail yard operations, shunting, or wagon handling.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Experience supervising small technical or operational teams preferred.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Experience working in heavy-haul or industrial rail environments is an advantage.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Technical Knowledge</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Understanding of wagon brake systems, coupling systems, and basic mechanical components.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Knowledge of rail yard operations, shunting procedures, and train formation principles.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Familiarity with rail safety rules, yard hazard controls, and safe movement of rolling stock.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Proficiency in using tracking systems, radios, and yard communication tools.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Knowledge of CMMS or wagon tracking software is an advantage.</li>
</ul>

<li>Frequent walking along uneven terrain and working around moving rail equipment.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Shift work, night duties, or extended hours may be required during operational peaks.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Mandatory use of PPE and compliance with yard safety protocols.</li>
</ul>
